Distance Disco

An online dance floor & research space for virtual encounters

DISTANCE DISCO is both a virtual dance floor and an experimental research space. At its core DISTANCE DISCO stimulates physical interaction and creates an exciting game around unexpected encounters with others. At the same time it is a powerful research tool for experimenting with the possibilities of a COVID-future space and online group interactions.

In the weekly public dance floor events (check it out here). The project investigates our perception of virtual public spaces by using the unique features of going out, like waiting-line suspense, new encounters, dance floors and flirting in combination with the unique features of online media like algorithmic matching, video and music streaming.

DISTANCE DISCO is used as part of our research toolkit for working on client projects as well as our internal research.

It’s different from other online discos. The synchronicity of dancing with your dance partner, someone you found amongst a bigger group, makes it exciting

Dancing in times of distress has always been my go-to remedy. Being able to spread the love with so many others is keeping my spirit up!
